Background/Problem


In this project, we propose to investigate acquiring
physical properties for human body, which are applied as the parameters for our realtime FEM-based lap. nephrectomy simulation. One of the most important advantages of our simulation platform is the accuracy. However, the accuracy could only achieved by using correctly measured physical properties, such as Young's modulus, for soft human body tissues.

  • Currently focus on the Kidney Project related soft-tissues
  • Experiments performed within 54 hours of time of death
  • Soft-tissues are preserved in physiological solution an warmed to body temperature for experiment
  • Uni-axial test for visco-elastic mechanical properties
  • Will extend to bi-axial test in near future
